Fighting cancer since 1904.

Phi Beta Psi – Love. Friendship. Truth.

Who we are.

Phi Beta Psi Sorority is a national organization which was founded in Columbus, OH, in 1904. We have 75 chapters across the country with over 1100 active members. Our goal is to grow together in friendship and charity - spreading the word about our mission.

Our purpose.

In 1948, cancer research became our focus and has been ever since. Over the years Phi Beta Psi has donated more than $11,000,000 to our cause. The money we have raised will hopefully lead to a possible cure or less difficult treatment for future generations.

Theta Delta chapter.

The Tipton chapter, Theta Delta, was formed in 1928 as the daughter chapter of Delta from Arcadia, IN. We have had generations of women join in our fight against cancer and we continue to grow as our community is growing. If you live in/around Tipton and want to get involved, get in touch! We’d love to have you!

How it started.

In 1904, North High School (Columbus, OH) student May Lied invited five girls to the home of her parents for the purpose of organizing what has become this national non-academic sorority.

Members of this first chapter, Alpha, held their meetings at the school, which allotted a page in the school paper for sorority news. May’s father assisted in all ways to make the group a success; such as helping write their by-laws, constitution, and aims. The original group was incorporated in the state of Ohio on the 15th day of February in 1904 as PHI BETA PSI.

“Being involved in the community has always been important to me, and that’s what I get to do with Phi Beta Psi. Our fundraising events help support other local organizations and raise money for a greater cause.”

Ashley Sampson, Chapter President

Sorority leadership.

As with all organizations of this size, it takes a village to keep things running smoothly. Luckily, our members are always up for a challenge. From local all the way up to the national level, we have some very dedicated women who give their time to make sure Phi Beta Psi is the best it can possibly be. Our leadership circle includes:

6 National Officers serving 2 year terms, a 3-member Advisory Committee (all past national officers), a 3-member Charity Trust Fund Board of Trustees, a Medical Advisory Board, and 5 Province Organizers who represent the sorority in starting new chapters. The current National President is Jenny Mefford of Eta chapter, elected in 2022.

The Indiana state organization is led by 6 State Officers serving 2 year terms (our own Lisa Fettig is the current State 1st VP). Our Indiana State President is Nancy Craig, elected in 2021.

And our local Theta Delta chapter currently has 9 Officers, led by President Ashley Sampson. We also have committee chairs who take charge of our charitable projects and fundraisers, always finding new ways we can help in our community.

Philanthropy.

Locally, the funds we raise go towards supporting organizations such as the Boys & Girls Club of Tipton County, the Tipton County 4-H Fair, reading programs at the Tipton County Public Library, mitten trees at local churches, and our own Operation Smile, where we send gas gift cards to community members who may have to travel while undergoing cancer treatments.

The Phi Beta Psi State Scholarship and National Project award funds each year to those studying in the medical technology field or working to further cancer research.

If you’d like to help further our reach, any support would be greatly appreciated!
